So it's been 2 weeks in Penang and I think it's safe to say that I've settled down. I'm even beginning to like living here..that is, I've accepted the heat. Hehehe
I'm doing my Medicine rotation right now for 4 weeks and the first 2 weeks will be spent in Seberang Jaya Hospital. That means crossing the bridge every morning and having to get up as early as 530am to leave before the jam. Sigh. But I actually like it at SJH. Things are more relaxed here, I'm not looking forward to going back to PGH where the doctors are probably meaner (from what I've heard). So wish me luck anyhow.
The first week at SJH was uneventful. We basically just clerked patients all morning with an hour or so of bedside teaching 3 times a week. One thing's for sure, I underestimated the difficulty of taking a history in any language other than English. O-M-G it's hard. I can't even find the translation to simple symptoms like heartburn (which I found out later, to be "pedih ulu hati" wtf). And people are so much more sensitive here to being asked about alcohol consumption..and as for sexual history, let's not even go there. But I've collected 3 cases to be included in my portfolio so I'm happy..for now. It would've been 4 but our MI patient refused to talk to us and we could only get to asking him about his past medical history before he clammed (or clamped?) up and shooed us away. Oh well let's hope for better luck in the female ward next week.
I get jealous reading WL's blog about all the stuff she's seen. Aaaargh next week ..next week!
So that's all...until something more interesting happens.
